Lamborghini to focus on weight reduction over horsepower increase

We’ve heard this from other manufacturers as well, such as Mercedes-Benz, but this is the first time a supercar manufacturer has stated that they will shift the focus from horsepower to weight. If your really think about and read what the Lambo CEO, Stephan Winkelmann, stated: “It has come to the point where acceleration equals consumption. More consumption means increased CO2 emissions.” So not only does it come down to engineering the car so that horsepower doesn’t dictate performance and speed, but also looking after the environment in the process.

This statement doesn’t just tell us that they’ll use more aluminum and carbon fiber in their future cars, but Winkelmann might also be hinting towards hybrid powertrains, or even all electric motors like we have with the Tesla.

Lamborghini caught testing new supercar – Jota?

Spies have caught Lamborghini testing what seems to be a new supercar in the making. Rumor has it that the Italians want to revive the “Jota” brand, but that’s yet to be confirmed. Either way, the new supercar will boast a direct inject V12 engine, which should produce upwards of 700 bhp. Carbon fiber and aluminum will be extensively used in the creation of the outer shell, to reduce the overall weight. If the new supercar looks anything like the Reventon, then they are sure to have a hit.

The Lamborghini Conquisto – A rear-drive Lambo SUV?!?

If Lamborghini ever wanted to konw how a SUV or crossover would fit in their porfolio, they could just look at the illustration that Belgian desinger David Cordoso created. It’s dubbed the Lamborghini Conquisto, and would retain most of the slick lines that you usually find on a Gallardo, but raise it a foot off the ground and added some bigger wheels. If Porsche can have an SUV, and maybe even Aston Martin, then why wouldn’t Lambo have one themselves.
